This commemorative silver dollar coin was issued in 1973 by the Canadian government to honor the country's mounted police. Known colloquially as "The Mounties" the RCMP was established in 1873 and this coin celebrates their 100th year.
The coin is composed of 50% silver and was designed by Arnold Machin. The front of the coin features Queen Elizabeth II and the back depicts a Canadian Mountie of horseback. The Royal Canadian Mint produced fewer than one million of these commemorative coins.
