The Canada Voyageur dollar is a famous Canadian dollar coin featuring a paddling voyageur and an Indigenous person in a canoe. It was designed by Emanuel Hahn and struck from 1935 to 1986. It was originally 80% silver (1935–1967) before switching to nickel (1968–1986). It is known for its iconic, long-running design and was replaced by the "Loonie" in 1987.
These 80% coins were struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. The back (reverse) of the coin depicts a French-Canadian voyageur and an Indigenous guide paddling a birch-bark canoe with wind-swept pines on an island and stylized Northern Lights in the background.
The obverse (front) features various reigning British monarchs, including George V (1935–1936), George VI (1937–1952), and Elizabeth II (1953–1987).
Please note: This is an 80% silver coin. Versions of this coin made after 1967 were made of nickel and did not contain any silver.
